Toll Roads

When driving around Japan, you may come across roads you have to pay to use. This is fairly common and should be expected when traveling. Here are some options you can utilize when encountering a toll road.

ETC are electronic toll collection cards that wirelessly connect with the Japanese highway toll gates. They track your trips using toll gates and your bill will be recorded and updated each time you use a toll road.

Cash And Card

On toll roads, both cash and credit cards are accepted. Generally in Japan, cash is the most popular form of payment. It is highly recommended that you use cash as much as possible while in the country.
